What is Hybrid? Wedding Photography & Videography on your Wedding Day.

Capturing Every Moment: The Power of Hybrid Wedding Photography & Videography

When it comes to your wedding day, every moment matters. From the subtle glances to the big celebrations, the laughter, the happy tears, and everything in between—these are the memories you'll want to relive over and over again. But when it comes to documenting those moments, do you choose photography or videography? Why not both?

That’s where hybrid wedding photography and videography come in. A two-person professional team capturing your wedding in both stunning photos and cinematic video ensures that no detail goes unnoticed. Let’s dive into why hybrid coverage might be the perfect choice for your big day.

What is Hybrid Wedding Photography & Videography?

Hybrid coverage means that instead of hiring separate teams for photography and videography, you work with one professional duo trained in both. With seamless coordination, they switch between capturing stills and video throughout the day, delivering a cohesive and beautifully documented wedding story.

The Benefits of Hybrid Coverage

1. A Seamless Experience
A two-person hybrid team works in perfect sync, ensuring that no moment is missed. Because they are experienced in both photography and videography, they anticipate key moments together, allowing for smooth transitions between capturing still images and filming video clips.

2. A Consistent Style & Vision
With the same creative team handling both photography and videography, you get a consistent style, color grading, and storytelling approach. Your wedding album and highlight film will feel like they belong together, creating a unified narrative of your day.

3. Less Intrusive, More Intimate
Large teams with multiple photographers and videographers can sometimes feel overwhelming. A two-person hybrid team allows for a more natural, intimate experience without sacrificing quality. Fewer people mean a less obtrusive presence, letting you and your guests enjoy the day without feeling like you’re constantly on camera.

4. Budget-Friendly Without Sacrificing Quality
Hiring separate photography and videography teams can be costly. With a hybrid team, you’re combining services, often making it a more budget-friendly option while still receiving high-quality coverage.

5. More Candid & Real Moments
Hybrid shooters are skilled in capturing both posed and spontaneous moments. They can quickly switch from snapping a heartfelt portrait to recording the laughter and movement of your first dance, ensuring you get the best of both worlds.

How Does It Work on Your Wedding Day?

Paul & I carefully plans our approach to ensure every part of your wedding is covered effectively. Here’s a look at how they might work throughout the day:

  • Getting Ready: Capturing the quiet anticipation through elegant portraits and behind-the-scenes video clips.

  • Ceremony: One shooter focuses on key still images while the other captures emotional video moments like vows and reactions.

  • Couples & Group Portraits: Switching seamlessly between posing for photos and filming candid moments.

  • Reception: Capturing toasts, dances, and guest interactions through a mix of photos and video clips.

  • Final Moments: Beautiful night portraits, fun dance shots, and heartfelt goodbyes all preserved in both formats.

Is Hybrid Wedding Coverage Right for You?

If you want the best of both worlds—stunning photos and a beautifully crafted wedding film—but prefer a streamlined, personal approach, a hybrid wedding photography and videography team might be the perfect fit. It offers efficiency, consistency, and an unobtrusive presence while ensuring every cherished moment is captured in its fullest form.

At the end of the day, your wedding story deserves to be told in a way that feels authentic to you. With a skilled hybrid team by your side, you’ll have a timeless collection of memories to relive and share for years to come.

Ready to capture your love story in both photo and film?

Let’s talk!

A Dream Wedding at Arbor at the Port in Rochester, NY

As a wedding photographer and videographer based in Rochester, NY, I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories at some truly remarkable venues. One of my favorite spaces to document weddings is Arbor at the Port. Located along Rochester’s scenic waterfront, this modern venue offers a unique blend of industrial charm and elegance—perfect for couples seeking a memorable loft-style wedding.

Arbor at the Port stands out as one of Rochester’s premier wedding venues. With its soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls, and large windows overlooking the Genesee River, it creates a stunning backdrop for both ceremonies and receptions.

  • Spacious Layout: The open floor plan allows for endless customization, accommodating both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations.

  • Golden Hour by the Water: We took advantage of the venue’s proximity to the river for some unforgettable sunset portraits.

Daniel & Shannon, Fall Fingerlakes Wedding at Lodge at Shadow Hill

A Stunning Fall Wedding at The Lodge at Shadow Hill

As a wedding photographer and videographer serving Rochester, Buffalo, and beyond, capturing moments at iconic venues like The Lodge at Shadow Hill is always a treat. Nestled in the heart of Western New York, this venue combines rustic elegance with modern amenities, making it a perfect choice for couples dreaming of a memorable fall wedding.

The Charm of Fall Weddings at The Lodge at Shadow Hill

Fall in Rochester, NY, offers a breathtaking backdrop of vibrant foliage, crisp air, and golden light. The Lodge at Shadow Hill enhances this natural beauty with its charming timber-frame architecture, sprawling lawns, and serene pond. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, this venue provides a versatile canvas for your special day.

The outdoor ceremony space, surrounded by colorful autumn trees, creates a magical setting for exchanging vows. Inside the lodge, the warm wood tones, vaulted ceilings, and expansive windows allow the beauty of the outdoors to flow in, perfect for cozy receptions.

A Wedding Day to Remember

Recently, I had the honor of capturing a fall wedding at The Lodge at Shadow Hill, and every detail was simply enchanting. The couple’s vision of an elegant yet laid-back celebration came to life with:

  • Seasonal Decor: Think pumpkins, burgundy florals, and gold accents, harmonizing perfectly with the autumnal setting.

  • Golden Hour Portraits: The golden light of late afternoon illuminated the couple against a backdrop of fiery leaves, creating some of my favorite shots of the day.

  • Candid Moments: From the emotional first look to the lively dance floor, every moment was filled with joy and love.

Photography and Videography Tips for Fall Weddings

  1. Embrace Natural Light: Fall’s soft, golden light is a photographer’s dream. Plan your timeline to maximize daylight for portraits.

  2. Layer Your Look: Cooler temperatures call for stylish wraps or jackets that complement your wedding attire.

  3. Incorporate Seasonal Elements: Adding fall-inspired details, like apple cider bars or maple leaf confetti, enhances the theme and makes for great photos.

Why Choose The Lodge at Shadow Hill?

  • Picturesque Views: From the pond to the wooded trails, every corner offers a stunning photo opportunity.

  • Seamless Flow: The venue’s layout ensures smooth transitions between ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

What should I wear for my Senior Portrait Session? (Boys addition)

Classic Button-Down Shirt & Chinos: A crisp, solid-colored or subtly patterned button-down shirt paired with well-fitted chinos in neutral tones (khaki, navy, or gray) offers a clean and polished look.

Layered Look: Add a casual blazer or sweater over a collared shirt for a more sophisticated and layered style. This adds depth and texture to the photos without being too formal.

Denim, Leather Jacket, Flannel, Sweater: For a more laid-back or edgy vibe, a denim or leather jacket works great. Pair it with a solid t-shirt or a simple plaid shirt to keep things casual yet stylish.

Solid Polo & Dark Jeans: A fitted polo shirt in a solid color can create a neat, clean look. Pair it with dark-wash jeans for a sharp but relaxed feel.

A sports jersey or full uniform. Including equipment that should be included (helmet, hat, ball, stick…)

Accessories: Keep it minimal. A simple watch or belt can add subtle details that enhance the outfit without overwhelming the portrait.

Footwear: For shoes, think clean sneakers, loafers, or dress shoes, depending on the look you’re going for. Make sure they’re polished and in good condition.

Whatever you choose, aim for clothes that reflect the student’s personality and stay away from distracting prints or logos. Neutral colors and simple patterns photograph well and will keep the focus on the subject’s face.

Preparing for Senior Portraits. A Guide to the whole process.

**1. Understand the Process

  • Consult with Your Photographer: Before the shoot, have a detailed conversation with your photographer about your vision, preferences, and any specific ideas you have in mind. This will help align your expectations.

  • Understand the Package: Be clear about what’s included in your package—number of outfits, locations, prints, digital files, and any additional costs.

**2. Plan Your Outfits

  • Choose Multiple Outfits: Select a few outfits that represent different sides of your personality. Consider a mix of casual, formal, and perhaps something that reflects a hobby or interest.

  • Coordinate, Don’t Match: Choose colors that complement each other rather than matching exactly. Neutral tones, pastels, and soft colors generally work well.

  • Avoid Distracting Patterns: Simple patterns or solid colors often look best. Avoid clothing with large logos or busy patterns that can distract from your face.

**3. Grooming and Personal Care

  • Hair: Schedule a haircut or trim a week before your session to ensure your hair looks its best. Make sure to style it in a way that feels natural and true to you.

  • Skin Care: Maintain your skincare routine leading up to the shoot. Avoid trying new products right before the session to prevent any unexpected reactions.

  • Nails: Keep your nails neat and clean. If you wear nail polish, choose a subtle color that won’t detract from your overall look.

**4. Prepare Your Accessories

  • Jewelry and Props: Bring a selection of accessories that enhance your outfits but aren’t overwhelming. Personal items like a letterman jacket or an instrument can add a personal touch.

  • Shoes: Choose shoes that complement your outfits and are comfortable. If the shoot involves multiple locations, consider bringing an extra pair for walking between spots.

**5. Practice Your Poses

  • Look Natural: Practice different poses in front of a mirror to see what feels natural. Avoid stiff or forced poses—relaxed and natural looks often turn out best.

  • Smile Genuinely: Work on your smile to ensure it looks genuine and relaxed. Think of something that makes you happy to bring out a natural smile.

**6. Get Rest and Stay Hydrated

  • Sleep Well: Aim for a good night’s sleep before your portrait session to look fresh and well-rested.

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your shoot to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant.

**7. Day of the Shoot

  • Arrive on Time: Plan to arrive at the location a little early to ensure you’re ready to start on time and to get comfortable with the setting.

  • Bring Essentials: Pack a small bag with any touch-up makeup, a hairbrush, and a few extra outfits in case of any last-minute changes.

**8. Communicate with Your Photographer

  • Discuss Expectations: Confirm any specific poses, angles, or shots you want. Be open to their suggestions as they bring professional expertise to the session.

  • Be Open to Feedback

**: Be receptive to guidance from your photographer during the shoot. They’ll help you with poses and positioning to ensure the best results.

Weddings at Ventosa Vineyards- Finger Lakes Weddings

When a couple contacts us we often have the conversation: How did you choose your wedding venue?

How many did you look at? Where are you from? Where is your family from?

We are surprised at the breadth of answers that we get in return. “We loved the ambiance” or “We thought

the views were spectacular” are common. We also get couples that say how beautiful the venue was at sunset

or even just how amazing the people that run or own the venue seemed. There are gobs of reasons to choose

a venue, many of which are very personal.

Ventosa Vineyards is a favorite of ours! The Fingerlakes region has really become a DESTINATION. A place to gather and spend time celebrating. So many of our couples who live in Boston, MA or New York City area are traveling to this area to plan their weddings! For the experience, the quality and the aesthetic, and we are thrilled!

Some recent favorites from some weddings we have photographed and done videography for in the last couple of years.

We love the vineyard, of course. With the big iconic tree. Perfectly place for sunset! BUT we also love the meadow area and the tree lined driveway. The lake in the distance is probalby our favorite. The reception area is colorful, with that Italian vibes that are hard to find elsewhere.

What to do immediately after you get engaged!

1. Master the art of subtly flashing your engagement ring in every conversation. "Oh, this old thing? Just a little something I picked up recently."

2. Practice saying "fiancé" with an exaggerated French accent to make it sound extra fancy.

3. Create a wedding Pinterest board that's so elaborate it could double as the blueprint for a royal wedding.

4. Perfect your engagement story – did you make a reel yet?

5. Start a heated debate about the perfect wedding hashtag, because obviously, this is a critical decision.

6. Develop a strategic plan for handling the onslaught of unsolicited wedding advice from well-meaning friends and family.

7. Attend a dance class together to prepare for the inevitable awkwardness of the first dance at the wedding – extra points for attempting the lift from Dirty Dancing.

8. Begin a rigorous regimen of wedding cake tasting because, let's be honest, that's the real highlight of wedding planning.

9. Practice your engagement photoshoot poses – nothing says "we're in love" like a well-timed candid laugh.

10. Embrace your inner wedding planner and start referring to yourself as the CEO of your upcoming nuptials.

Most Commonly Asked Questions about Wedding Photography

Commonly asked  questions:

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

It's a good idea to book your wedding photographer 9-12 months before your wedding date, especially if you're planning a wedding during the peak season. This will help ensure you secure your preferred photographer's availability.

What's the average cost of wedding photography?

A blog post we wrote about this.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

The number of hours you'll need depends on your wedding schedule. A full day typically ranges from 8-12 hours. Discuss your timeline with your photographer to determine the ideal coverage duration for your wedding.

Can we customize our photography package?

The short answer is yes!

We have designed a very simple, straight forward pricing. BUT we can change things around to fit into what extras you may want or to help make it fit into your budget. Based on hours, products and creatives needed on your date!

Most photographers offer customizable packages to fit your specific needs. You can add or remove services, such as engagement sessions, albums, or additional photographers. Be sure to discuss your preferences and expectations.

What's your photography style?

WE, Paul & Chelse actually have 2 different styles! Which makes them totally unique. Chelse has a story telling and documentary style of shooting. She uses natural light in most cases.Paul also shoots documentary style during the majority of the day but for portraits and evening hours he creates his own light with off camera flash. This results in a more moody, vibrant look with lots of details like sky, sunset and glow.

We BOTH love bright, flattering, cinematic imagery that tell a story.

You can review more in their  PORTFOLIO

Do you have experience with our venue?

Photographers familiar with your wedding venue may have insights into the best locations for photos. However, experienced photographers can adapt to new locations, so venue experience isn't always necessary.

How many images can we expect to receive, and when will we get them?

The number of photos you receive depends on your wedding day. And what happens. We typically deliver around 1000 images.

Our delivery time sometimes depends on the season of your event. Our delivery range  usually ranges from 4-12 weeks after the wedding.

Video can take a bit longer.

We deliver every client teasers within days of the event! A larger group of images that makes you feel like you have seen your event and can start sending out Thanks Yous.

We also have your short wedding film to you within 2 weeks!

Can we provide a shot list or specific photo requests?

We welcome a shot list to ensure they capture family groupings, portrait grouping. However, we hope you will trust our expertise to capture candid and spontaneous moments.

What's your backup plan for unforeseen circumstances?

We have contingency plans for equipment failure, illness, or other unexpected issues. We have backup cameras and additional photographers on standby.

We have been in the photography community in Rochester for a long time. We have a variety of photographers who we have agreed to back eachother up! We also have a couple photographers who work only with us. So far we have never had use them, but we have backed them up!

Are travel fees included in the package?

We do not charge for travel within 2 hours of our studio. If  your wedding is taking place at a destination that requires us to stay or pay for airfare we typically included that in our package.

Can we see full wedding galleries you've shot?

Yes!

We will send these to you privately!

We find this so important. A portfolio is a photographer’s best work! And we are happy you get to see that right on our website.

BUT galleries show you how we shoot in all the different times of the day. Even though each wedding is different, it still gives you a good look at how we handle difficult lighting situations and documenting all the things that happen!

What's your approach to post-processing and retouching?

We have experimented with all kinds of post processing throughout the years. “Actions” “vintage textures”  but in the end we prefer a bright, natural, classic approach. We want these photos to stand the test of time. No embarrassing styles.

We do touch up things that don’t belong, or distractions. We also crop and fix blemishes.

The fact is we can do anything you want! Just ask. We actually teach editing. So we can make happen whatever you need. Some couples ask for more editing and we are happy to accommodate.

Do you have liability insurance?

WE do!

Can we meet you in person before booking?

We would love that! We have a studio in Mendon. BUT we also are happy to come closer to you! OR we can chat by phone or via Zoom.

Do you require a deposit or contract?

We do require a deposit to secure your date. We take 1/3rd of your package price. We have a contract outlining terms and conditions we send to you online to sign.

Who wants to come to Spain with us? Barcelona & Costa Brava

I think most people who have been following along know that I, Chelse am married to Ivan who is from Barcelona Spain.

If feels like a second home to me. I would love to share it with you!!!

We have talked about it for years.

New World Nomad and Bethany have given us the experience and advice to try it!!

We have some preliminary information and would like to collect a list of “very interested in going” people.

OUR PLAN:

ARRIVE IN BARCELONA. Stay one night in a boutique hotel in the best part of town. Let us show you around! You will have the day to adjust and then in the evening we will explore, eat, drink and shop! Spanish style. Likely late into the evening. No better way to adjust to jet lag then dive right in. Think Tapas, Sangria & El Barrio Gotico.

The next morning we explore the sights, Sagrada Familia, some of the other famous Gaudi buildings and take in all the art. Then we head off to Costa Brava! These beach towns are my favorite place to be.

We plan to do side trips to Girona, Vineyards, dive into Spanish culture, eat traditional meals, and really just enjoy meeting new friends and exploring together.

The magic of this kind of travel is, security of friends, the knowledge of experience, and the total joy of discovering a new culture.

Come with us?

Fill out the information link below if you are truly interested.

We have 25 spots. We are hoping to keep the price under $2500 per person (plus airfaire). We have chosen April 2024 (within the last two weeks, dates to be released very soon) to keep airfare down and to have the city to ourselves!

Click here to LET US KNOW you are interested!

What is Hybrid Photography & Videography?

Did you hire a photographer and then see someone’s wedding video and think…Oh? I kinda want that. BUT now the money is gone.

Did you hire a photographer and want video but are not sure who to hire? Most photographers don’t even like to refer videographers because they hate sharing you with them them and dealing with the different creative styles and time they need.

As a photographer. We totally get it.

We started offering videography in 2018. We honestly, didn’t want to deal with other videographers. AND we love videography. The story telling piece in video is special. Almost superior to photography.

Along the way we have offered a whole team that we brought with us. Which is fun! BUT a lot of people and stuff.

In the last two years we have been working on Hybrid.

What does that mean?

Hybrid Photography & Video coverage is Paul and Chelse shooting BOTH photography and vidoegraphy, Just 2 people. Our approach is focused on connecting moments and story telling. We are so proud of our product. It is the perfect opportunity to get high end photography and videography without hiring two different businesses.

How To Choose which Photographer or Video | How to Score Your Dream Wedding Photographer

We want you to choose us, but we also just want you to have amazing wedding photography!

So here are some things we thought might help:

1. Don't Wait Till the Last Minute Time flies when you're planning a wedding, seriously!

Start looking for a photographer early on. The best ones get snatched up real quick, and you don't wanna miss out on someone great.

2. Know Your Photo Style Sit down with your partner and decide what kinda photos you want.

Do you like those classic, posed shots or more candid, spontaneous ones? Check out some portfolios together to see what clicks with both of you.

3. Budget Wisely Photography's an investment, so set a budget and stick to it.

Don't go overboard or cheap out. Find a balance between quality and cost that works for you.

4. Meet 'Em In Person or Online Get to know your potential photographers by meeting them in person or through video calls.

See if you vibe with 'em and if they get your vision. You'll be hanging out with them on your big day, so make sure you feel comfortable.

5. See the Full Picture Ask photographers for full wedding albums they've done before.

You'll get a better idea of their skills and style, not just the highlights they show off.

6. Backup Plans are Life Savers Stuff happens, so make sure your photographer has a backup plan.

Cameras can act up, or they might fall sick – they need to have a Plan B.

7. Time It Right Sort out a timeline with your photographer. You wanna make sure they capture all the important moments without rushing or missing anything.

8. Read the Contract Don't skip the boring stuff!

Read the contract carefully and make sure everything you agreed on is in there. If something seems off, ask 'em about it.

9. Trust Your Gut At the end of the day, trust your instincts.

If you feel a connection with a photographer and love their work, it's a good sign they're the one for you.

Alright, you've got this! Finding the perfect wedding photographer might take a bit of effort, but it's gonna be worth it when you look back at those amazing shots. Happy hunting!
